'AMLÉ' (Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn) is the new name for the Union of Students in Ireland. It's a direct translation. It came into effect on 13 May 2025. The rebrand reflects the desire of the organisation to promote the use of the Irish Language.

In an open letter to the Irish Government, AMLÉ alongside spokespeople for organisations:

  • Amnesty International
  • Marriage Equality
  • Yes Equality
  • Irish Council for Civil Liberties
  • Belong To
  • Irish Congress of Trade Unions

outlined their frustration that people within the LGBT community in Northern Ireland can still not lawfully marry one another.

“It is wholly unacceptable that, years after the introduction of equal marriage legislation in every other part of the UK and Ireland, same-sex couples north of the Border should continue to face discrimination.”
